Vmware Workstation 6.5 is the latest version of the software that allows you to run virtual machines on a PC. The program simulates an environment in which a new operative system can be installed. This environment is set apart from the real environment in which VMware Workstation is running. You allocate the amount of resources this virtual machine will use, such as RAM, and Hard Drive memory. Many hardware components can be bridged to the hardware of the real components such as a CD/DVD Drive, Network adapters, USB ports, etc. There are other simulated hardware that can be used, like using files (disc images, hard drive images) to work as a hardware component. The virtual machine allows any Windows, Linux or BSD variant with ease, allowing the user to save on having multiple real PCs in order to use different operative systems simultaneously. Testing in multiple operative systems in a simultaneous way allows to save time and costs. There are some small problems with hardware bridges, but they are rare. Version 6.5 has more support for 32 and 64 bit software. One of the biggest improvements is the ability to use accelerated graphics on the virtual machines. Overall, this application is one of the best virtual machine softwares in the market.
Starts up Hyper-V, VirtualBox, VMware virtual machines by Wake-On-LAN packets.
